International Food Science Park

The concept for an International Food Science Park was conceived by Dean Attwell, CEO of a successful family-run business that specialises in food storage and distribution solutions for major retailers.
The vision is to create a sustainable, carbon-neutral, full supply-chain International Food Science Park with the synergy of food producers, retailers and distributors, educational and training facilities and research and development on one site.

This unique proposition underpinned with a Passivhaus approach, embedded solar power and heat exchangers offers huge carbon savings and logistical efficiencies with a calculated reduction to the carbon footprint of 85%.

Birmingham/West Midlands is currently undergoing an unprecedented period of economic growth and, outside of London, is the top performing city in the UK.

Project Overview

The International Food Science Park covers an area of 200 hectares and has the capacity to deliver over 1.5 million square feet of floor space phased over 25 years. Sitting at the heart of the West Midlands motorway network it is ideally placed for the logistical movement of goods around the country.

ONE engaged with national decision makers and attracted support from the Birmingham, Solihull LEP and Business Secretary, Sajid Javid, who are fully behind businesses that drive the economy forward with innovation and sound investment.

We are currently working at a strategic level with 60% of the site providing multi-functional Green Infrastructure within which sit development functions, zones, movement routes, land parcels and development phases. A clear set of design principals underpin the masterplan to support the next design stage.
